FEMINIST SUPER STRINGSA Performative Laboratory for Embodied Knowledge

29 May – 15 October 2026

FEMINIST SUPER STRINGS is a performative exhibition and research laboratory hosted by MOTHERBOARD and developed within a circuit-based ritual architecture by Stephanie Winter & SALON HYBRID, in dialogue with works by Francesca Aldegani, Bettina Eigner and Zosia Holubowska.

Drawing connections between early knowledge systems, oral cultures, female writing traditions, ritual practices, healers, mystics and contemporary feminist thought — from Neolithic and pre-patriarchal contexts to the present — the project approaches history as a plural field of perspectives, where different times carry their own forms of knowledge, relation and coexistence.

The project unfolds as an open, participatory setting exploring the “strings” that connect us, those that bind us, those that have been lost, and those we are collectively reweaving. Visitors are invited to create and contribute their own thread, a material trace of their presence and voice. Old garments are torn into strips and braided, twisted and knotted into threads, hand-dyed with black tea, cumin and other natural pigments. Stories, gestures, memories, songs and oral transmissions interweave into a shared body of relations.

With each encounter, the ritual architecture is activated and grows, accumulating threads, voices and gestures into an evolving collective structure.

FEMINIST SUPER STRINGS opens a space for unlearning inherited patriarchal structures and reactivating communal, embodied and non-dominant ways of knowing and being together, allowing different forms of knowledge and relation to circulate, connect and take material form.

What are the threads that hold us together? What forms of knowledge, relation and ritual have been obscured through systems of domination and patriarchal structures?

GROWING TOGETHER

Wood Walk through Vienna

Details & registrationClose

A guided wood walk through a changing forested or wild space in Vienna, led by Stephanie Winter and invited guests. The walk invites participants to slow down, listen and attune to other species, exploring the temporalities of trees, soil, growth and decay — and our own place within them.

Practice & Research Fields

MOTHERBOARD works at the intersection of feminist thought, ecological storytelling, embodied knowledge and speculative world-making, with a particular interest in terrestrial kinship and more-than-human alliances. The practice moves between the intimate and the planetary, tracing how bodies, environments, materials, technologies and other forms of life shape one another.

Our research unfolds within a practice of planetary intimacy — where ideas, bodies, landscapes, plants and bacteria meet, mingle, ferment, nourish, digest and take root.

Selected laboratories and exhibitions include WILDERNESS ALLIANCES, VIBRANT MATTER, RADICAL CARE, WICKED FUTURES and HEALING COMMON GROUNDS.

Radical Care

We host research and embodied learning formats such as SHARING SESSIONS, BANQUET OF BECOMING, CAREAMIC and RADICAL CARE — from situated practices of knowledge exchange, relational experiences and performative dinners to earth-based workshops and woodland walks. Across this field, we engage processes of unlearning dominant and patriarchal structures and recovering suppressed or forgotten relations. Together, these formats open a shared field of making, learning and becoming. You are invited to join, participate or co-create.

About

MOTHERBOARD is an artist-led space and evolving platform for feminist, ecological and interdisciplinary practice, based in Vienna since 2021. The name connects motherhood, planetary care and the logic of computing into an infrastructural matrix. Like a motherboard, it creates pathways through which different components can meet, exchange and activate one another. As a hosting body, MOTHERBOARD creates temporary infrastructures through two annual constellations in the form of spatial narratives, exhibitions and laboratories, holding space for different voices, bringing multiple human and more-than-human agencies into relation.

MOTHERBOARD is hosted by artist Stephanie Winter and shaped by a constellation of long-term and temporary collaborators.
